The second international seminar under the project “Red Year”

Place: Vepriai

Date: 25/09 -01/10/2011

The seminar was held in Vepriai, a small town in Ukmergė district. 35 educators from Estonia,
Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden attended the seminar ((LIST OF PARTICIPANTS)

The seminar was designed to share information about education policy and school curriculum
and the number of lessons allocated to teaching about the Soviet occupations, which age groups
of students are taught. There were discussions about the sufficiency of history lessons and young
generations’ attitude towards the Soviet period and sovietisation (PRESENTATIONS).

During the methodological activities different documents on the Soviet occupations in the Baltic
countries were analysed. Groups of educators worked on creating methodology based on source
application in history, language teaching in different countries (Historical sources available at
DOCUMENTS).

There was an encounter with the resistance participant Jonas Kadžionis who had been sentenced to
25 years of imprisonment in the Gulag. Information about the partisan is available HERE.

All the participants of the seminar participated in a hike with different interactive tasks on the sites
of resistance movement in 1945- 1953. They visited the most significant sites of partisan warfare
in Ukmerge and Anyksciai districts, explored the partisan dugout next to Kavarskas. Some hike
